A narrative choice-based educational game
- fully solo developed, made as a part of my bachelor's thesis
- used historical records from my hometown to write a narrative
- designed and implemented a system that allows for more complex narrative branching
The most interesting part of the design was balancing the educational aspect of the game with the freedom of narrative choice. Most of the narrative branching happens in the cracks of the history where the outcome in the historical records wasn't known, so it had space for imagination to run wild. With a few bigger events though, the workaround was that your choice not being effective in the game was part of the narrative, as my small hometown often had little to do about it's fate when much larger forces were involved.
