Goof-Life Balance

A goofy first-person narrative puzzle game.

- I worked on the initial design, narrative, level blockout and task (quest) design.

- I was the lead programmer and created the character controller, camera and main mechanics of the game.

- Worked together with a 2D artist, 3D artist, sound engineer, UI Designer & Project Manager and tech artist.

The primary design goal of the game were the narrative puzzles where the player has to figure out what their goal is by talking to their coworkers in a dystopian workplace. The main hurdle that our team had was the balance between how much we want to explain the task goals to the player, to keep the game understandable while keeping the joy of exploration and figuring out the goals on your own.

Another interesting thing we had to keep in mind with the design of the game was that it would be played at an expo. This meant that our player base would consist of a much more varied type of players than would be expected with a release where we could expect the players to be more familiar with this type of gameplay.
